Paladins and Others Attempt to stop Tournaments
(Crossing, Zoluren: 285 Skullcleaver 359)
Hathorne clumps into the Wren’s Nest, approaches the bar, and looks thoughtful for a moment. After a few moments of silence, Baresh gives Hathorne a perplexed look. Grinning, the Paladin says, "Oh, sorry. I was pondering my thoughts, assumed you could read them like everyone else." Baresh gives Hathorne that annoyed look, pondering him to shut up and get on with it.
"Well," says Hathorne, sitting on a stool, "Like most what come in here, I’ve got my own tale to tell, so here goes… seems a few days ago, Marstan and Vaxin came to Crossings and sorta boarded off the cemetary from tournaments, or "touneying", if you will."
"Well, they tried anyway. Heck, I was there first hand; Marstan gave me a taste of the void when I met him face to face, and let me tell you, it is a terrible experience." The Paladin looks troubled by some passing thought, but continues, "Well, anyway, you know the story… what I’m here about is our attempts to be getting that cemetary cleared of tourneying. Y’see, the thing is, all them tourniers are pretty vehement about keeping up their traditions. I heard earlier today that there was going to be a tournament, so I rushed there first thing. When I got there, I found out I was the only person there actually trying to stop them from tourneying (Dreamheart was there, and had evidently tried to convince them too, but she left as I arrived.)
So I spent a while trying to talk them out of it, to no avail. I cast Banner of Truce a few times, to the point where they started dragging me to the more deserted areas in the cemetary and casting thunderclap repeatedly on me. Needless to say, I couldn’t really stop them myself, and the tournament continued before I could stop it. I know Canten and Saliar and some others tried to help me eventually (I apologize that I cannot remember names), but it was all to no avail. Soon War Dinegos invaded and killed many people… I tried casting Banner of Truce as much as I could, but eventually my mana ran out."
Hathorne stops for a moment, a passing thought having seemingly grabbed his attention. Chuckling slightly, he says, "You know, a war mage actually shot me during a point between banners…" He gestures to his shirt, which is bloodied around the right arm with a hole in it. "Of course, after a couple hours, an empath arrived that kindly healed me. That same war mage also picked my pockets repeatedly, and I still don’t understand why. All I did was cast banner of truce in the central part of the cemetary, trying to keep the Dinegos away and keep others alive."
"Anyway, eventually the fighting died down and I left the mausoleum (which is where I hid when my mana ran out). Can you believe it, Baresh? They actually tried to start another tournament! But this time my gweth messages were answered, and many noble Paladins arrived to help me, along with others. We bannered the area for a while, had a big long argument, which probably is still going. Ah well, I’ve run out of steam. Point being, there was a big long bunch of arguing going on in the cemetary, and that’s news, aint it?"
Hathorne scratches his head, as though trying to remember why he came. Muttering to himself, he wanders out, narrowly missing the door post on the way.
